Waze: Navigation Social Mapping Business bought by…Google

waze_logoTo supplement their offering of mapping solutions Google have acquired the social mapping entity: Waze. Waze hails from Israel and has create a live to view social mapping solution which helps travelers with issues afflicting drivers in real time such as roadworks, petrol prices, blocked routes and traffic. There was plenty of interesting in the social application from many camps including Apple and Facebook, who are not the world leaders in mapping – especially after Apple’s debacle for its highly problematic mapping software.

The model now is that many users pay for update traffic information with the likes of Tom Tom and Garmin, but now that information will be available for free – keeping users within the Google domain, making yet another proposition for Google to keep more people engaged across its properties from GMail to Google Maps.
